inside innovation

My foray into personable journalism has been characterised by electronic music. I can picture my tentative excitement and overwhelming anxiety when preparing interviews with the elusive figureheads of the ‘underground’ world. So for me, interviewing such a glamorous talent as Yasmin was a change of pace that required new running shoes.

After huffing and puffing all the way to Purple PR’s rooftop office- I’m terrified of lifts- I find the Mancwegian (Manchester-born, Glasgow-raised) lass waiting patiently in their glass meeting room. She’s utterly stunning to behold and as I’m making a polite introduction my brain’s screaming, “Must…say…words. Clever…words!”

Her muted Scottish accent is disarmingly welcoming and, sporting her trademark Ushanka, she dives straight into animated discussion of all things music. I’m impressed with her musical knowledge; I touch upon East London’s centrepiece venue Plastic People and she instantly recalls tales of excitable nights at FWD and Rinse FM’s domination of dance music.

The interview starts with talk of Yasmin’s latest single ‘Light Up (The World)‘ featuring Shy FX and Ms Dynamite, which was released by Ministry of Sound Monday 7th November 2011.
