Founded in Sweden in 2006 and launched to the public in October 2008, Spotify has been described as ‘a saviour of the music industry’, offering free and legal access to a vast library of music through its proprietary peer-to-peer music streaming service.Spotify has grown rapidly to become a global brand with over 6 million users in Europe and an American launch is scheduled for later this year.
The recent media hype surrounding Spotify’s proposed iPhone application demonstrates its growing popularity and potential to be a major competitor to Apple’s online iTunes store.
