inside innovation

Andy & TK introduced me to their company Nurien Software who recently won Nvidia’s NVISION 08 award for Most Promising Emerging Company. These guys talk about having an ‘unfair advantage’ as a result of building their business in Seoul, where they have access to the best Massive Multiplayer platform developers in the world. Combined with capital investment from a mix of Chinese and North American VCs they are well poised to take on the Chinese domestic market with the aggressive business leadership afforded by American corporate culture.

In this video TK explains the ideas behind their virtual world platform and discuss how combining South Korea’s two great loves; social networking and massive multiplayer gaming opens up a whole new spectrum of online communication and social interaction.A key focus of their platform development is the lifelike motion of the avatars. These characters have 180 ‘bones’ in their structure and their movements were incredibly natural and expressive – avatars could embrace, kiss and even have a natural sway and fidget when they are stationary. Furthermore unlike Second Life, Nurien’s virtual world is built with widgets from your real world social networks in mind. Users

can pull in their Youtube channels and FlickR accounts into the 3D digital objects in their virtual rooms.

Check out the video above to see the avatars in action whilst it is still in beta or visit the Inquirer blog for further reading.
