AT AN AMD OVERCLOCKING EVENING in a London hostelry in April, the INQUIRER battled to a valiant second place in a competition to turn up the gigahertz on AMD’s flagship 955 Phenom 2 black edition processor.On hand to deflect us from our task were AMD UK MD Andrew “nice guy” Buxton and European marketing man Richard “back-in-the-limelight” Baker.We caught up with the pair over a few jars, while veteran hack Martin Courtney quizzed system builder Roy Goodenough of PC Pitstop in Hove, as to why anyone in their right mind would want to over clock their PC in the first place.

Hosting the event is AMD’s overclocking specialist Sami Mäkinen.
