His Twitter bio reads “I am a London taxi driver”, but Mitch Winehouse never let his unfaltering love of music fade since his parents filled their household with the sounds of Frank Sinatra & Sarah Vaughan. Forward half a century and Mitch has finally paid homage to the great swing singers of the 50s with tribute album Rush Of Love, accompanied by extensive touring and visions of a follow-up LP due in 2012. Suddenly, the influence behind Amy Winehouse’s career begins to emerge.

As Mitch warms up for a sell-out show at Soho’s Pizza Express Jazz Club, Jules Hallam grabs a booth with Mitch to chat swing, touring and forthcoming material.

UPDATE: We’re incredibly saddened to hear that Amy Winehouse was found dead on 23rd July 2011. Our deepest condolences go out to Mitch and the rest of her family. RIP.
