Interview: Dave Dunn of MediaForum
Intruders.TV is about entrepreneurship – and that includes social entrepreneurship. At PodCamp Ireland, we spoke to Dave Dunn, founder of MediaForum an organisation dedicated to the promotion of media literacy in Ireland.
A working definition is: i["Media Literacy is the skills, knowledge and competencies to be able to access, analyse, appreciate, evaluate, enjoy, create and produce media in all its forms"]i.
According to Dave, we live in such a media-saturated world, that media-literacy is at the core of a range of issues, including government, social justice and consumer rights.
But is there a deficiency in our levels of media literacy and if so, what is the impact? Dave points to a new survey which establishes a benchmark for media literacy in Ireland. Commissioned by The Radharc Trust and conducted by DCU (School of Communications) and DIT (School of Media) the title is b[Critical Media Literacy in Ireland]b. The report will be launched on Saturday next, 3rd of November at the Media Literacy Education Symposium in Temple Bar, Dublin, to be chaired by Fergus Finlay, CEO of Barnardos
